our history
In 1963, a group of like-minded parents came together to find better options for their children. They were looking for more support and opportunities for children with complex intellectual and physical disabilities.
Together, they helped open Karonga House Special School. The school provided education for children from an early age through to the end of high school. Over time, Karonga grew and supported many families.
In 1983, the same group of dedicated parents and family members saw another gap. There were very few options for young people after school. In response, they created Minimbah at its current home in Marsfield.
Minimbah was built on the idea of creating a warm, family-like environment.
Today, our centre in leafy Marsfield, Sydney offers:

All services are tailored to each person's needs and goals. We provide both one-on-one and group support in a safe and welcoming place that encourages:

In 2016, Minimbah transitioned to the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme).
The NDIS is based on two key principles:
Choice and control - people choose the supports they want
Reasonable and necessary supports - supports must meet each person's needs
At Minimbah, participants and families choose the supports and activities that suit them best.
We have always been family-focused. We work together, support each other, and celebrate milestones together.
Minimbah continues to deliver high-quality, person-centred day programs as a registered NDIS provider.
We work closely with families and carers to support each individual to live their best life - staying true to our goal: "Making the best life with our people."
